Proud to advance the 1 in 5 cause!
I happen to have dyslexia, a language-based learning disability often linked to creativity. While dyslexia can make learning school hard, it is also a gift that got me to think of putting a basketball hoop on a mug for throwing marshmallows into hot chocolate.
Did you know that 1 in 5 kids in the U.S. struggles with learning and attention issues related to reading, writing, math, organization and attention? Kids with learning and attention issues can thrive when they get the support they need. That is why I donate five percent of my profits from the sale of my mugs to dyslexia-related charities and non-profits like Understood.org, which are dedicated to empowering parents of kids like me.
It was an honor to share the stage with Daymond John and John Legend at the WME/New Profit Reimagine Learning event!
Check out the video of me with Daymond John!As I said in my speech... Imagine what other good ideas our world will have when ALL kids who think and learn differently are understood. It was also great to help raise over $2.4 million for the NCLD (see blog post.)
Here is a list of great organizations that I have supported either through financial contributions or in-kind donations (my mugs!):
